Life As We Go

Proof of life

invite

I just finished assembling our invitations- as much as possible for now. I still need to number each response card according to the guest list to help eliminate any RSVP confusion and the envelopes will be addressed next week; then I can begin stuffing them. I plan on using a wax seal which I’ve already bought (and am looking forward to trying out!!) to close up the envelopes.

I’ve been debating adding a liner to the inside of our envelopes, which are just a standard cream. Here are a few I’ve found so far:

champagne

eggplant

The above are from paperstudio.com and this last one is from papermojo.com… I found a lot of prints I really liked on papermojo that weren’t wedding related, maybe for just general crafting. There is a lot of really nice paper out there!

Of course I’m still searching… There really isn’t much of a common thread ‘theme-wise’ here. I guess I’m still at a point where I can take it any direction I want.

Hoopdy loo

A few weeks ago I read an article on Betty Confidential about how Marisa Tomei used Hoopnotica (music warning) to get in shape for The Wrestler… I was highly intrigued and checked out their site but made myself think it over before just busting out my credit card. It’s been on my mind ever since so I finally caved on Friday and ordered one.

hoop

This is the Cure hoop… 10% of the proceeds go to breast cancer research and it glows in the dark. Sweetness. I bought the special which means I also get the 1st & 2nd beginner DVD’s, and an e-book of some sort plus access to the forums. They even shipped my stuff on Friday. Nice! I can’t wait for it to get here, I am actually really excited. The press page is pretty impressive and I figure standing up and wiggling around is much more of an activity than being parked on the couch for way longer than I care to admit.

I will definitely keep you posted on how it works out. Keep your fingers crossed though, I am about 4 months late in starting a diet/exercise regime! As of right now there’s only 6 months, 4 days and 17 hours.

Gowns and spit wads

As I had mentioned my wedding dress is officially on order, due to arrive in mid-July. Now as much as I would love to share pictures with all of you, I know Chad pops in here once in a while, and I just can’t risk it. But to tide us all over, here is a little snippet:

dress

I also love my veil! It’s being made in England and should be in some time in April… I can’t wait, I want to wear it at all times. Soo pretty!

veil

Two of my bridesmaids were able to go dress shopping this past Saturday and we found a potential winner… It’s the pink dress on the left, which the lovely, headless Char is modeling for you. But the color will more than likely be in cinnamon, which is on the right. I don’t know how true-to-color the cinnamon picture is, it seems to me it was more reddish in person, maybe not.

char color

I’m really pleased that their dress is the same material as mine, taffeta, and it thrills me to no end that they all wanted to wear the same thing and be uniform. The option was totally up to them but I’m so happy they made the right choice, hardy har har. Here’s a close-up of the bust detailing… I think it will be flattering for all three girls.

Random weird thing that happened… it has really been raining a lot around here lately and while we were on the way to the first dress shop Jamie started getting dripped on in the back seat. The map lights in my dad’s Acadia were actually full of water, we could see it sloshing around. So what’s the best way to stop that?

Which then made great spit wads…

Beauty and the Beast

A friend (hi Nia!), had a Lia Sophia jewelry party and the goods came in on Friday. My mom and I combined an order so I pretty much got a buy one get one free deal… a pair of earrings and a new ring. Normally I wear yellow gold but my engagement ring is white, and really the only reason for that is because I we he couldn’t wait the two weeks for the gold to come in.

ring

And that officially brings us to the beast. I think it was a week ago Monday? I fried my hand on the toaster oven at work. I was ever-so nobly trying to poke my sandwich into the back corner to make room for another… I had a run in with the heating element. I’ll spare you the detail of how my skin was instantly brown and I won’t even go into the smell of burning flesh filling the room. I ran it under cold water right away and then I’ve kept a nice slathering of my *miracle potion on ever since. I also sheared off a layer of skin the other day putting away a towel, that kind of sucked. Regardless, I feel like it’s finally starting to heal, which is good because we have engagement pictures May 28th.

*This is my Windex. Let’s just say Chad calls me Diaper Lips. But I don’t care- it WORKS.

I’m not dead

It has been brought to my attention that I still have a poor little blog out there on the interwebs, sorely in need of an update. I must admit I’ll be sad to see my gramp’s cute squishy face no longer staring back at me…

Unfortunately I really haven’t been up to many interesting things that are fun to hear about after the fact. But I will give you a few: a flat tire, a vacant rental house, a wedding dress due to arrive just after my birthday in July!, filling my house back up with JUNK, getting puffier, a new stray kitty, a messy house and a whole lotta knitting.

stash

This isn’t even all of my recent stash acquirement. I had one more shopping escapade at Knit Michigan which resulted in another pile o’ yarn (including a 5,000 yd cone of cotton for $5!) that I don’t have a picture of. I’m officially done buying yarn for a while now- but as you can see I at least have enough to keep me busy in the meantime.

scarf

I finished the Column of Leaves scarf which is in Little Lola by Schaefer Yarn… for myself.

swirls

*The Swirls Cap in Shepherd’s Wool… again for myself. And yeah… me post-shower. I can’t make myself post the bigger version of this. Regardless- I love this yarn and the hat. (*this one is a Ravelry link)

I’ve also been crocheting snowflakes. I picked up a pattern book at Michaels and have 7 or 8 done so far. They’re all shriveled little tangles of thread though- I need to block and pin them out with some fabric stiffener. I’m hoping to make enough to do some kind of garland or decoration for the holidays.

Also, I’ve been plucking away at my third Pomatomus sock- you can see it in the bottom left corner in the first picture. If you’ll remember the first one I knit (also my first sock ever) was incredibly tight, to the point that I can’t get it past my heel. I had enough yarn leftover after the second for a third, so I will have a complete pair plus the option to immortalize my first sock for all time.

Even still, I’ve been sidetracked from the Pomatomus now because I just cast on for the Soft Linen Hoodie- pictured on the left in orange.

hoodie

I’m using Classic Elite Soft Linen in a colorway called Lupine, which is a gorgeous shade of purple and for once compliments my pale skin. I have about an inch of the front panel under my belt so far. I am really loving this yarn- I got it at a steal from the Dizzy Sheep.

Skye Tweed Vest: Part 3

I finished the Skye Tweed Vest before Christmas… I really did. But in keeping with history I washed it the night before, thinking all would be well, only to pull it out of the washer and see a HOLE! Gahh! Luckily it wasn’t too tragic and I was able to fix it before giving it to him… today.

vest

He actually ended up going elsewhere for Christmas so I haven’t seen him until today, which is my brothers birthday. It seems to fit him well and he left it on and wore it home, so I suppose that’s a good sign.

That would be the birthday boy in the back there…

cable

I just really like this picture of the cables and couldn’t resist sharing again :)

Careful… it’s dangerous out there…

So much for a resolution

Woo-hoooo! Remember me? It’s been like a year since I’ve posted so I’m not really expecting any miracles here… but just in case you do…

Santa was very good to me, as always. Everything I received was on my list and anything that wasn’t was a great surprise! I’m now the proud owner of an iPhone, which immediately sucked all the information out of my brain and categorized it in cute little applications, accessible with just a tap of the finger. Although gloves really suck now and today I actually considered chopping off the tip of my glove for my right index finger…

Edit: I can’t believe I forgot to mention that I got a Roku! That tiny little box makes me so happy! I love Netflix and would recommend it to anyone.

I actually got some nice loot in the knitting and crafting department, which is totally awesome. A few really good books, a swift (can I get a hallelujah!), a gift card to Ewe to You, and a new iron for my sewing room. My parents also made both Chad and me our own super big fleecy tie-blankets. Actually they made a bunch for other people too and they were all really cool. It was a very warm, squishy Christmas with blankets, robes, heat packs, pajamas and all kinds of other goodies.

For New Year’s Eve we had a few people over and managed to stay up until 3am. Lots of good times and not many appropriate pictures that I should share. Hmm. On the resolution front… I know people complain about how stupid it is to make resolutions that you’re never going to keep anyway… but what kind of attitude is that? I have a whole list of goals for the year and if I meet them, I’m a better person for it. If not, then you can probably bet it is going to be on my list for next year. Technically I’m not off to a great start though because one of them was to blog regularly… here we are now seven days into the new year and I’m just geting around to my first post! Alas, I picked up some Metamucil on the way home and things are looking up from here…

A week of darkness

tank

Monday when we were putting up the tree & Christmas decorations one of our lights on the salt water tank went out. Chad tried to get one locally but they couldn’t get any in the color spectrum that we needed so I ordered one from diyreef.com. I placed the order late Thursday night so it just came in today…

Chad was irritated as hell when it didn’t turn on instantly & he couldn’t make it work, which put us about 2 seconds away from spending the rest of the night in one serious funk, but thank god- after about 10 minutes it had finally warmed up enough and slowly turned on and the mood lifted. But it is soo much brighter than our other light. The last one was a 250w blue-line 10k metal halide bulb so it really gave off more of a blue light. I like this one much more, it’s whiter and really mimics sun light in the water. It’s a zillion times brighter hence the tinfoil light shield… it’s quite blinding at couch level. We’re thinking everything will really have a growth bloom under this new light, we’ll see!

The plan is to build a nice facade for the tank to hide the light fixtures and cover the refugium… hopefully over this winter. It looks so pathetic with a crappy stand so I can’t wait. :)

I couldn’t take it any longer…

The heat technically has been on for at least a month but it’s been set at a brisk 58º. Now it’s not as bad as it sounds people… We spend 95% of our time in the back living room which just so happens to be where our wood-burning stove lives. Typically we have a fire every day and it’s roaring until we go to bed… it’s usually around a delightful 80º back here but the impractical floor plan prevents the heat from getting to the front half, which remains just below 60º. So ultimately it’s freezing cold in our bedroom at night. I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned it before but Chad & Craig installed a vent system to pump air from the back up to our bedroom in the front, however it needs a stronger fan.

So come last Wednesday and I notice that my jaw is getting a little achey for no apparent reason at all. I figured it was a fluke but every day it was getting worse and worse until around Tuesday when I could barely open it more than a half inch without serious pain. I’ve had TMJ before but it felt different, it only hurts when I’m moving my jaw certain ways whereas the TMJ was a constant pain. And really I don’t think it was stress… I mean yeah I have shitty things in my life but I think I have most of my anxiety issues under control thanks to my pharmacist ifyaknowhatimean.

Coincidentally I had a dentist appointment yesterday and he was able to check things out- the first thing he said was ‘What’s got you stressing honey?’ and I instantly deflated. He prescribed me a high dose of Motrin 3x a day and went on his merry way leaving me with the hygienist. We started chatting and she mentioned that maybe I was clenching my jaw in my sleep, which got me thinking. Our room is FREEZING cold at night and I do distinctly recall waking up several times shivering uncontrollably, clammy as can be. Yes people I think I have been chattering my jaw into overdrive and it’s time to turn up the heat!

The drugs are already helping with the pain- I love the drugs- and I did turn up the heat a whopping 2º last night. I was going to hop to 68º but Chad was whining about the Consumers bill and I agreed to forgo my lofty hopes of hot air and get out the heating blanket instead. Which turned out to be AWESOME by the way (this was our first time using it since we got it last Christmas). The room was a little warmer but the blanket just kept us nice and cozy without eventually overheating us throughout the night. We have a few more windows to plasticize, including in our bedroom, and depending on how comfortable I am sleeping I may continue to slowly turn the heat up more- without telling him of course. I know better than that :)
